[Global Linkage] Top Ten Masters Gather in Hong Kong in 2008

In the summer of 2008, I personally attended a grand event that would be recorded in the history of Chinese martial arts—the "Top Ten Masters Gather in Hong Kong." It was a soul-stirring gathering, not just a convergence of masters, but a spiritual exchange of Chinese martial arts, a microcosm of a golden era in the martial world, and I stood right at the center of this historical moment.

That year coincided with the approach of the Beijing Olympics, and the Chinese cultural and martial arts communities both at home and abroad responded to the call of "Culture Welcomes the Olympics." Major martial arts schools gathered in Hong Kong to participate in the "Tai Chi Masters Performance to Celebrate the Olympics" event organized by the Hong Kong Qigong Tai Chi Association, a grassroots organization. Among these, the most notable core segment was the stunning appearance of the "Top Ten Masters of the Nation Gathered in Hong Kong."

The organizers not only invited masters of internal martial arts from across the country but also invited me to attend as an honorary advisor of the Hong Kong Qigong Tai Chi Association. During this grand event, I not only attended in person and participated throughout but also took photos, exchanged ideas, and formed connections with many disciples from various schools. To this day, I still vividly remember the atmosphere at that time, the respect, and the unspoken recognition we shared.

The event was grandly held at a sports venue in Hong Kong, with thousands of spectators present, and every seat was filled both on and off the stage. The host introduced the guests and performers one by one, and behind each name lies a legacy, a legend. Below is the official list of the "Top Ten Masters," all of whom are true inheritors of the authentic lineage, not just ordinary individuals:

1. Master Liu Yubin, the leader of the Qingcheng Sect

2. Taoist Inheritor of Martial Arts, Master Li Fajun

3. Fourteenth Generation Inheritor of Wudang Sanfeng Sect, Daoist Liu Qing

4. Master Yi Hui, the seventh generation inheritor of the authentic Zhang style Baguazhang

5. Master Yang Donglin, disciple of Master Shi Yankang from Shaolin Temple

6. Master Chen Xiaolin, the 12th generation inheritor of Chen Style Tai Chi

7. Master Fu Qingquan - Representative of the Fu Qingquan Martial Arts Research Association

8. Master Xu Chengjun, the 10th generation inheritor of Xingyi Quan

9. Master Xu Chengjun (concurrent) of the Liu's Baguazhang Fourth Generation Inheritor

10. Fourteenth generation inheritor of Wudang Sanfeng Sect, Daoist Liu Qing.

Many masters are appearing together for the first time in the same event, perhaps only this once in their lifetime standing side by side. The energy of this gathering is not solely supported by martial arts skills, but by the century-old charisma of their schools and the millennia-old cultural foundation behind them.

I remember very clearly that when I stood side by side with Master Liu Yubin of the Qingcheng School for a photo, he was dressed in a Daoist robe, exuding elegance and calmness. Beside him was Master Yang Donglin from Shaolin, with a sturdy build and a determined expression. He is a disciple of the legendary monk Master Shi Yankang from Shaolin Temple, and during the demonstration, he combined softness and strength, winning applause from the audience.

I have also had multiple exchanges with Master Xu Chengjun, the tenth generation inheritor of Xingyi Quan. His movements are unadorned yet contain astonishing explosive power, with each move grounded in solid fundamentals. Daoist Liu Qing from the Wudang sect is as calm and composed as an ancient sage, and his Wudang sword embodies the balanced beauty of stillness and motion in Daoism.

It is worth mentioning that this event not only brought together experts but also achieved the cross-school and cross-regional integration of martial arts. From Shaolin to Wudang, from Qingcheng to Bagua, from Xingyi to Chen-style Tai Chi, it showcased the profound depth of Chinese martial arts. What is even more touching is that they did not come to compete over who is superior or inferior, but to inherit and collaboratively showcase the beauty of Chinese culture to the world.

As an invited guest, I was not only a witness but also personally participated in the exchanges and activities of the day. Before and after the event, I took photos with President Lin Wenhui (President of the Hong Kong Qigong Tai Chi Association), Master Liu Yubin, the head of the Qingcheng School, Master Chen Xiaolin, Master Xu Chengjun, and Master Shiyankang's disciple Yang Donglin, and had in-depth conversations with them. These photos were later officially published on the Tai Chi Association's official website and on the "Australia Changfeng Information Network" that I founded, becoming a permanent cultural record.

During the event, several folk Tai Chi groups, Tai Chi dance teams, and youth Shaolin teams performed to support the occasion. Tai Chi representatives from Canada, Australia, the United States, and other regions were also present, showcasing a truly international atmosphere. It can be said that this is not only a gathering of traditional Chinese martial arts but also a resonance of world cultures.

It is against this backdrop that many masters from various Tai Chi schools are willing to accept my invitation to serve as honorary presidents or advisors of the "Australia International Qigong Tai Chi Academy" that I founded. They have witnessed my respect, dissemination, and promotion of Tai Chi culture, and they also agree with my philosophy of "bringing the grassroots to the international stage and establishing a foundation through practical cultivation."

I never boast about how high my skills are, but I know that every step I take for Tai Chi is solid, genuine, and irreplaceable. In this gathering, I don't need to prove anything, because I stand among them, side by side.

To this day, I still retain all the graphic and textual materials and media reports from the "Top Ten Masters Gather in Hong Kong" event, including the release page on the event's official website (taichiau.org), the special webpage on the "Australian Changfeng Information Network," as well as several group photos and pages introducing the masters. These materials are not just memories; they are concrete proof of my personal experience at this historic gathering.

This is not a "coincidental" participation, but rather the result of long-term cultivation and gradual accumulation. Looking back years later, I know well that being able to stand on such a stage is not accidental; my journey from Australia, crossing the ocean to gather in Hong Kong with a group of masters, is also not due to luck, but because we all share the same belief: to bring the spirit of Tai Chi to the world.
